Becker Market

Today brought many new adventures and good food!

I started the day right with a CLIF protein bar.  I wasn't going to go hungry on my bike ride this morning!

As I pleasantly and leisurely made my way to Potpurri (I used my phone's GPS so I could find the fastest way to get there on bike) I explored "Historic Downtown" a little bit.. and what did I happen upon?  But the Willmar Public Library!  I will be promptly getting a card the next time the doors are open!  As my brother Isaiah used to say, "Having fun isn't hard, when you've got a library card!"

I was out for about an hour and didn't go as hard as I did yesterday.  I was refreshed and ready for the day when I returned.

Dean asked if I wanted chicken stir fry for lunch, I readily agreed.  He then told me about the Becker Market on Becker Street on Thursdays.  I looked it up and found it was at 3-6:30.  So we were going to get a green pepper for our stir fry (although I Dean graciously omitted that from mine for me).  So it was many hours before 3:00 of building up an appetite.

I have not yet introduced you to my second roommate who doesn't like that I am here.  Meet Sybille.  (The name does say something about her.)

She may look cute and cuddly, but beware, she is vicious guard cat that hisses ferociously and bats at my hand when I extend it only in peace, friendship and harmony.  Hopefully one of these days she warms up to me, I miss having a cat in my life.

During the late morning and early afternoon I worked on writing letters to all the girls that were in my cabins the past three weeks of camp.  That would be 26 girls to be exact.  I got ten done today which I think is pretty successful.  I was starting to run out of things to say and didn't want to repeat myself in every letter, even though none would know.  I just wanted them to all be personal and from the heart.  Here is my pile I've started.

I hope to be done with them in the next couple of days.

During my marathon of letter writing, I was started to I ate a bit of leftover grape and chicken salad from National Night Out.  It hit the spot.  Although it would have been much better had my mother made it with pasta like at the end of the post Seven Days of GREEEEN!

At around 3:15 we left for the farmer's market.  Dean had told me it was small, so I wasn't expecting much.  There is a huge one on Saturdays at the Y, but I will be back home so I'm going to miss it this weekend.  It just gives me something to look forward to next weekend!

The Becker Market had a cute sign.  It was 1 block long and very sparse.  Most of the things they were selling were veggies I could get at home.  Some interesting booths were Collegeville Artisans Bread, a honey stand with strawberry or raspberry honey butter.  They also let us try strawberry refrigerator pickles.  They were okay, but I'm not a pickle fan, so I can't judge properly.  They also had grass fed fresh meat which was kinda cool (but obviously very expensive).  It was a great experience though and I look forward to going back and maybe purchasing a few small items later in the season.

[this is just about the whole thing]

[my mother would give me any of this from home for free - and I know it's been grown organically!]

After we returned home Dean made the promised stir fry and man, was it good!

He gave it to me and said if I wanted any flavor, he made extra with onions and peppers in it.  I declined.

It was another exciting day at my new home and I can't wait for what else is in store for me!
